ME 364 - Vibrations

Student Learning Objectives

Students who complete ME 364 should be able to:

  1. Create mathematical models of physical systems and derive their governing equations in order to analyze the vibration properties of the systems.
  2. Determine the natural frequencies and mode shapes of simple discrete systems.
  3. Create mass-spring-damper models of mechanical systems
  4. Derive the discrete governing equations of mechanical systems
  5. Perform a Fourier Series expansion on a repeatable signal
  6. Determine the response of single degree-of-freedom systems to initial conditions, harmonic excitations, impulse, and general forcing conditions.
  7. Use Laplace Transforms to solve linear, time invariant systems of equations.
  8. Determine the response of two degree-of-freedom systems to initial conditions, harmonic excitations, impulse, and general forcing conditions.
