ME 362 - Mechanisms

Student Learning Objectives

Students who complete ME 362 should be able to:

  1. Identify the types of joints and degrees-of-freedom of a variety of mechanisms.
  2. Compute and interpret various measures of mechanism quality.
  3. Apply analytical techniques to the kinematic analysis (position, velocity, and acceleration) of planar mechanisms.
  4. Apply graphical techniques to the kinematic analysis (position, velocity, and acceleration) of planar mechanisms.
  5. Apply numerical techniques to the kinematic analysis of planar mechanisms.
  6. Apply analytical techniques to the synthesis of planar mechanisms.
  7. Apply graphical techniques to the synthesis of planar mechanisms.
  8. Analytically determine output gear speed and rotation direction for a variety of gear trains with a single input.
  9. Calculate mechanical advantage.
  10. Describe the physical meaning of mechanical advantage.
